Born, raised and happy to be home in Wailupe, Mikey Coté embodies the raw spirit of what the Wailupe Boys are about. The simple pleasures of surfing, fishing, and paddling steps from his house has turned childhood pastimes into a well accomplished waterman lifestyle.
In 2008, after only two previous crossings, Mikey won the World Championship of Paddleboarding as he crossed the Kaiwi channel on a stock Bark board in minuets before many more seasoned competitors. In 2009, he defended his title with a record setting time of 5:32:25 and continues to find ways to improve his personal best. He is looking into taking his knowledge of surfing open ocean swells into outrigger oneman paddling this season to increase his spectrum of water sports.
He is currently attending the university of Hawaii in the ocean sciences department. Looking to advance aqua culture in the Hawaiian waters with non-gaming fish. Mikey continues to train year round in preparation for paddleboarding as well as emerging into surfing North Shore.Home.htmlhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Channels_of_the_Hawaiian_Islandshttp://barkocean.comhttp://www.hawaii.eduhttp://maps.google.com/maps?client=safari&rls=en&q=wailupe%20circle%20hawaii&oe=UTF-8&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wlshapeimage_2_link_0shapeimage_2_link_1shapeimage_2_link_2shapeimage_2_link_3
